Ho Chi Minh City is not a sights city, and pretending otherwise is why so many travellers under-rate it. It has one unmissable museum (War Remnants), one palace worth an hour, and a famous market we tell you to skip as a shopping trip. What it delivers is density: the food, the traffic choreography, coffee as social infrastructure, and war history that lands harder here than anywhere else in Vietnam. Give it three days, and book the two things worth booking ahead: the Cu Chi half-day and an evening motorbike food tour.

How many days do you need in Ho Chi Minh City?

Three, if you want the city and one day trip. Two is enough for the museum, the palace, the food and one neighbourhood; the third day is what makes Cu Chi possible without cutting anything. Five only if you are adding the Mekong properly, with a night in Cần Thơ.

Is the Mekong Delta day trip worth it?

Not as a day tour. The standard coach day runs about nine hours for roughly four on the ground, and the sampan paddle it is sold on lasts 10 to 15 minutes. Go to Cần Thơ for two days and see Cái Răng at first light, or skip the delta entirely.

Is Bến Thành Market a tourist trap?

As a place to shop, mostly yes: stalls inside quote tourist prices and expect you to bargain hard. The building is worth twenty minutes and the surrounding streets are worth an evening.

Is Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City the right name?

Saigon is what people say; Ho Chi Minh City is what the map says. Almost nobody local uses the full name in conversation — and since July 2025 the central ward is officially named Saigon Ward, so the map has partly come round.

Has Ho Chi Minh City banned petrol motorbikes?

No. Hanoi is the city moving on this, and slowly: its plan, settled in May 2026, starts with an 11-street Old Quarter zone closed to all vehicles on Friday to Sunday evenings from July 2026, and reaches petrol motorbikes across Ring Road 1 only in 2028–2029. Ho Chi Minh City has no ban in force; a draft low-emission zone would start as a central pilot in July 2027.
