Saigon Motorbike Food Tours: Which One Should You Book?

What does the budget tier actually get you?

About four hours, a dedicated pillion driver, and seven to twelve tastings across several districts, usually with hotel pickup.

The four-hour evening motorbike tour is the category-defining product in this city, and Saigon is the category's epicentre. You ride pillion; someone else deals with the traffic; you eat things you would not have ordered and could not have found.

Prices in the budget tier sit at roughly US$30–45. In August 2026 the two Viator volume leaders were listed at US$30 and US$31 and showed about 14,750 reviews between them, both rated 5.0; booking direct costs a little more — Saigon on Motorbike's own site lists its night street-food tour by scooter at US$39 (October 2026).

Is the US$82 tour worth roughly double?

For a nervous first-time pillion, a solo traveller — especially a solo woman — or anyone who wants insurance certainty, yes. For a confident traveller who mainly wants the food and the ride, no.

XO Tours has run since 2010 and, by its own account, was Vietnam's first all-female motorbike tour company; its drivers are women in áo dài. Its Foodie Tour runs 17:30–22:00, about four and a half hours, at US$82 (2,132,000₫), with at least ten to twelve dishes, dessert and unlimited drinks, across five districts beyond District 1 — three food venues with two sightseeing stops between them. Groups are capped at 16; a private option costs extra.

Here is the part worth being blunt about. What the premium buys is licensed professional guides and accident insurance included in every ticket — both stated on XO's own site. XO also says most cheaper operators are unlicensed and uninsured; that is a competitor talking, and at least one big budget-tier operator, Saigon Adventure, states on its own site that it is a licensed international tour operator. So ask both questions — licence and insurance — of whoever you book. The difference between the tiers is risk transfer, not the cooking.

XO also deliberately steers clear of phở, bánh xèo, bánh mì and spring rolls in favour of lesser-known dishes, with a lot of seafood. If you have already eaten the famous dishes, that is a real argument for it beyond the insurance.

The Michelin-list tour is the most interesting one

A four-hour tour built on the city's Michelin Bib Gourmand list — budget-tier money for a route with an outside judge behind it.

Ho Chi Minh City holds six of Vietnam's eleven Michelin stars in the 2026 guide, published on 4 June 2026 — it already led Hanoi five to three in 2025 — and 25 of the country's 72 Bib Gourmands. At the Bib shops most dishes cost 60,000–150,000₫ (US$2.30–5.80). A tour built on that list is a genuinely different product rather than a repackaged one.

When we looked in August 2026 it was listed at US$29 with a review record in the low hundreds rather than the thousands. Small review counts cut both ways: less proof, but also less chance the operator has scaled past the point where the guide still cares.

Cooking classes, if you would rather learn than ride

Typically two and a half to four hours, and the good ones include a wet-market shop before you cook.

The market trip is the part that makes the difference — buying the herbs is how you learn what is in the food. Platform listings in August 2026 ran from under US$30 to about US$105; these are the listed prices we saw then, not re-checked since.
